ISLAMABAD: At a joint news conference with Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Friday, UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs Dominic Raab signalled the UK’s intention to engage with the Taliban administration in Afghanistan.

Raab said that evacuating 15,000 people from Kabul would not have been feasible without some help from the Taliban, who took control of the city on August 15.

“We recognise the value of being able to connect and communicate directly,” he added.

According to Foreign Minister Qureshi, such discussions with British government leaders help Pakistan improve its relations with the UK.

He said Pakistan has made “significant progress” in removing itself off the FATF’s grey list. He stated, “We have taken legislative, administrative, and tangible actions that are being taken.”

FM Qureshi claimed he spoke with British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson about Pakistan’s inclusion on the UK’s Red List, and that he informed him how Pakistanis felt about it and “what has to be done to get Pakistan’s name off the Red List and into the Amber List.”

The foreign minister expressed his delight that a meeting between Dr. Faisal Sultan and British officials has been scheduled for Monday, during which he would propose measures for “all parties to feel comfortable and solve this problem.”

“Overall, it was an open and honest debate. Thank you very much for coming “The foreign minister came to his conclusion.
