SLAMABAD (Channel News) – Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) resumed direct flights to Iran on Thursday after a five-year hiatus in order to foster people-to-people interactions and improve the tourist business.

According to PIA spokesperson Abdullah Khan, the first PIA flight from Lahore to Mashhad took off on Wednesday night, and direct flights from Karachi to Mashhad will commence today.

Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Mohammad Ali Hosseini stated on the social-networking website Twitter that the two nations had agreed to expand aviation cooperation.
