ISLAMABAD – Asad Umar, the Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, stated on Sunday that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) seeks to deprive the citizens of their rights.

During a press conference in Islamabad, he said this. Asad Umar stated that the price of flour in Karachi is more than in Punjab, and that he has filed an application opposing the Sindh Local Bodies Amendment Bill. The PPP’s only goal is to put the country in peril. In comparison to Punjab, Sindh produces a surplus of wheat, which is sold at exorbitant prices of at least Rs300-350 per tonne.

According to the planning and development minister, the province spent Rs2.5 billion during the COVID-19 outbreak. He went on to say that there are obvious depictions of an Omicron outbreak sweeping the country in the near future. According to Bloomberg reports, the government will be able to achieve 100 percent vaccination in ten years, he stated.

Asad Umar had issued a warning earlier today about a fresh wave of Covid-19 in the country, with a new variety known as Omicron.

He stated that there was definite evidence of the start of a new Covid wave, which had been predicted for the past few weeks.
On his Twitter account, he wrote, “Genome sequencing shows increased proportion of omicron cases, particularly in Karachi.”

The minister, who is also the Chairman of the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), asked people to adhere to SOPs, which included wearing face masks.

Meanwhile, the minister told a press conference in Karachi that the federal government has spent Rs 250 billion out of its budget on COVID vaccines.

He said that by December 31, 2021, the government had vaccinated over 70 million people in the country, as planned.

In response to a PPP leader’s tweet alleging the Sindh Province was unable to obtain vaccines as required by law, the minister stated that no legislation prevents any province from obtaining vaccines.
