At the lunch break of day three of the current third Test against Australia, Pakistan’s rookie opener Abdullah Shafique and senior batter Azhar Ali both hit half-centuries, bringing Pakistan’s total to 159/1.

The set pair of Abdullah and Azhar, who had resumed at 90/1 overnight, extended their crucial partnership by 69 runs, ensuring that the home side did not lose any wickets.

With the home team remaining 232 runs behind Australia’s 391, the two will begin the action in the second session.

Pakistan added 69 runs at a reasonable rate of 2.4 in the first session of the third day. Abdullah, the right-handed opener, leads the scoreboard with an unbeaten 75 off 214 balls, laced with 10 boundaries, while Azhar has 63 runs off six boundaries and a six.

The touring team had a disappointing session because they were unable to break the overnight partnership.
