The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a notice to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, for speaking at a public meeting in Malakand on March 23.

Bilawal Bhutto was handed the notice by the district monitoring officer (DMO) Malakand for speaking at a public gathering in violation of the code of conduct for the local government elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa phase-II.

“It has come to our attention through monitoring teams and the media that you attended a public gathering in Tehsil Dargai District, Malakand as part of the election campaign of PPP candidates for Tehsil, notwithstanding the issue of an advising letter on March 22,” the notice continued. “You were permitted to participate in a candidate’s election campaign as per clause 16 I of the amended Code of Conduct established by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP),” it stated. “Parliamentarians such as members of the national assembly, provincial assemblies, and the senate are authorised to engage in the election campaign,” the paragraph states.
