GENEVA: In the second round of the ongoing Geneva Open, French tennis player Richard Gasquet stunned second-ranked Daniil Medvedev with scores of 6-2, 7-6 (5).

Medvedev, who had returned from injury, suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Gasquet, who appeared rusty.

After defeating Roger Federer 17 years ago in Monte Carlo, the Russian, who had hernia surgery last month, double-faulted for the seventh time on Gasquet’s first match point, allowing the Frenchman to snap a 36-match losing streak against opponents ranked No. 1 or 2.
