ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — According to people familiar with the issue, the Army Chief’s appointment will be made public within the next 24 hours.

According to sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, who was accompanied by top security officials. SAPM Malik Ahmad Khan was also present during the meeting.

According to reports, the process of selecting the next army commander has formally begun, as Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa is set to retire on November 29.

Bilawal reminds the President of the consequences of denying the Army Chief’s summary appointment.

Earlier, Foreign Minister and Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto cautioned the President that if he sought to delay the appointment of the next Pakistan Army chief, he would face the repercussions.

According to the Foreign Minister, the prime minister has the ability under Pakistan’s constitution to nominate a new army commander. According to Bilawal Bhutto, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan wishes to sabotage the process of naming the army chief, which will not take place.

According to Bilawal Bhutto, if Imran Khan truly believes in democracy, he should allow the process for the important appointment to be completed.

The PML-N has no preference for the nomination of the army chief: Defense Minister

Meanwhile, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif indicated last week that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had no favourite candidate for army chief.

However, Khawaja Asif later announced on Friday that a consensus was reached after a meeting between Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and President Dr Arif Alvi.
