LAHORE – Former principal secretary to deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Fawad Hassan Fawad, submitted a plea in an accountability court on Tuesday seeking acquittal in the 2018 assets beyond means case.
The petitioner said in the petition that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) investigation into the assets matter was unconstitutional since it beyond the NAB’s authority. Fawad stated that he did not wish to gain from the modifications to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) rules enacted by parliament earlier this year. “I request an early determination on the merits of the matter,” stated the former principal secretary.
Judge Uzma Akhtar Chughtai of the accountability court accepted his plea for hearing and issued a notice to the anti-graft watchdog for January 4, 2023.
The NAB Lahore initiated an investigation on him in 2018 for allegedly neglecting to disclose the sources of assets worth more than Rs1.9 billion. It was claimed that the accused owned an eight-kanal commercial site and had a stake in a Rawalpindi plaza.
