LAHORE — Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Asad Umar cautioned the Chief Election Commissioner on Wednesday against violating the constitution.
Speaking to the media, Mr Umar cautioned the ECP CEC that he would be held responsible if he violated the constitution. Mr Umar reminded the election watchdog of its duties, claiming, “The ECP was not acting neutrally.”
Mr Umar blamed the ECP for the country’s political problems, saying, “With the presence of the political crisis, the circumstance of economic disaster was created.”
He taught Finance Minister Ishaq Dar a lesson, adding, “Dar was giving previous finance minister Miftah Ismail a hard time while he was away. He accused Miftah for not engaging properly with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).”
“If the deal was also ongoing with the IMF, then on what subjects were the discussions with the international lender going?” Mr Umar inquired.
Asad Umar also remembers the push for hasty elections.
Tuesday was Mr Umar reaffirmed his call for hasty elections on Tuesday.
Speaking to the media with other leaders Fawad Chaudhry and Hammad Azhar, Mr Umar discussed the “Jail Bharo Movement,” stating, “Besides the workers, the party’s bigwigs are also ready to face arrest.”
“It has been almost four days since the LHC announced a judgement on conducting elections in Punjab,” Mr Umar said, referencing the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) decision.
“However, the governor has not declared the province’s elections.”
“The whole mass is looking at how the coalition government is avoiding the polls,” Mr Umar added, referring to the present administration.
Mr. Umar reminded his opponents of the primacy of the constitution, saying, “There is no greater crime than violating the constitution.”
He highlighted legal experts’ comments, adding, “According to the legal profession, the act of violating the constitution is comparable to sedition.”
