LAHORE – Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and a former prime minister, filed a plea with the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday, asking for precautionary bail after he failed to show up for court.
Imran Khan has until 6:30 p.m. to appear before the court, according to the court. The PTI chairman was given a chance to appear in court, but he chose not to, therefore the two-member LHC panel rejected his appeal.
The former prime minister chose to show up before the Lahore High Court despite rumours of his detention (LHC). The path outside the former premier’s home had been made clear so that he could be brought before the court. The PTI supporters on this occasion shouted phrases in favour of Mr. Khan and his party.
Imran Khan had earlier made the decision not to show up in court due to health reasons after being told he couldn’t fly.
After having his release revoked by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in a case brought against him for demonstrating outside the ECP headquarters on Wednesday, Mr. Khan submitted the protective bail plea.
But, the high court required Mr. Khan to personally appear in the case in order to be released on bail and ordered him to do so until 9 a.m. on Thursday.
The appellant should be brought before the court on a stretcher or in the ambulance till 8 o’clock, if required, Judge Tariq Saleem Sheikh had said.
Mr. Khan said in his plea that he was a law-abiding citizen who wanted to submit to the court. Protective bail should be granted to him since he intended to submit a new interim bail plea to the court, according to the plea.
The argument further claimed that Mr. Khan was named in the lawsuit to be politically victimised. The Islamabad High Court (IHC) allegedly rejected Mr. Khan’s request for a medical appearance exemption and the bail request.
