GUJRANWALA : Ahsan Nazir, the suspect in the assault on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan, was granted bail by the anti-terrorism court on Friday.

The court granted bail to Ahsan Nazir against surety bonds of Rs. 500,000 and said that it had reserved judgement on the bail requests made by Waqas and Ahsan Nazir. Waqas’s argument was nonetheless turned down.

According to reports, Nazir was the brother of Mudassir Nazir, district information secretary for the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), and he was detained for posting on his social media account on the day that Mr. Khan was assaulted that “something’s major going to happen today.” The post was later deleted.

Previously, the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) entrusted with looking into the assault on Mr. Khan had been reconstituted by the federal Interior Ministry. Musarrat Cheema, the leader of the PTI, said that the JIT members were under pressure to make divisive remarks.
