ISLAMABAD : On Friday, Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah authorised the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to look into the alleged audio leaks by former Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Parvez Elahi.
At the initial stage of the inquiry, the agency began by doing a forensic examination of the leaks. If the recording was determined to be original, the test result would be sent to the Ministry of Interior, and a case would be brought against Mr. Elahi.
Mr. Sanaullah had already pleaded with Pakistan’s Chief Justice (CJP), Umar Ata Bandial, to take note of the alleged tape. He sought the forensic examination of Mr. Elahi’s allegedly leaked audio recording in which he discussed “controlling the courts” while speaking to the media in Islamabad.
According to him, the case should be brought before the judicial committee if the former Punjab CM was found guilty after the forensic investigation. After conducting a forensic examination of the audio discussion, “the FIA is mandated to arrest Mr. Elahi,” he said.
