UPPER KURRAM (Web Desk) – On Friday, members of civil society protested the heinous murders of eight persons, including five schoolteachers, on May 4.

They came to the streets to demand justice for the deaths of teachers as well as their safety. Previously, unidentified perpetrators fired down eight individuals in two separate incidents, including one teacher on Shalozan Road. Authorities identified “land dispute” as the root reason of the killings.

Kurram Teachers Association (KTA) protested the heinous crime shortly after it occurred. According to Zahid Turi, a KTA official, all public and private schools would stay closed, and matriculation examinations will be postponed.

Today was the second day of protest in the neighbourhood, as markets were closed and mourners conducted rallies on the day of the event.

Teachers protesting at Israr Shaeed High School in Parachinar stated the schools will stay closed until an inquiry was completed. “Administration and the school education department take full notice if a teacher is absent from school, but no measures have been taken to protect them,” a teacher complained.

Women flocked to the streets in Alizai to demand that the government safeguard teachers. They carried signs and banners that said, “It’s better to raise a voice than bury the dead.”

In response to the occurrences, the Kurram Bar Council (KBC) declared that the courts would be closed.

Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Kurram MNA, as well as the commissioner and DIG police Kohat, arrived in Parachinar. He said that they will speak with the individuals and take action to remedy the matter.

A vast audience also gathered for the burial prayers of all the deceased before proceeding to the Parachinar Press Club.

Authorities are looking for information.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif criticised the event and demanded a report from the relevant authorities.

The Prime Minister instructed the appropriate authorities to give a full report on the occurrence. He emphasised the need of bringing those guilty for this horrible crime to justice as quickly as possible.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah promised to bring “enemies of the country and education” to justice.

The incident was also described as a “property dispute” by KP interim CM Azam Khan, who requested a report from the police and relevant government.

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan went to Twitter to voice his displeasure with PM Shehbaz’s journey to London for King Charles III’s coronation ceremony, which occurred amid escalating terrorism in the country.
