ISLAMABAD – The PTI applied to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday for permission to organise a protest in the federal capital.

The opposition party petitioned the IHC for guidance on the non-issuance of a no-objection certificate (NOC) for the May 6 protest in Islamabad. The party asked the Supreme Court to order the Islamabad deputy commissioner to give the NOC for the demonstration.

According to the plea, the demonstration from Zero Point to F-9 Park should be permitted in view of the Supreme Court’s 2022 judgement, PTI’s peaceful workers should not be mistreated, and the DC should be directed to inform the Islamabad IG to provide security for the protest.

According to the PTI’s plea, the DC was asked for the rally’s NOC but declined.

The Imran-led party has already organised nationwide protests in support of the judiciary and Pakistan’s Chief Justice.

— The PTI has announced demonstrations in support of CJP Bandial.

On Thursday, Imran Khan, the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), called on the people to go to the streets this weekend to show sympathy with Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial, amid an ongoing dispute between the court and parliament over the scheduling of snap elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In a video message released before of his appearance in the Islamabad High Court on nine cases, the former prime minister urged people to come out of their homes for one hour on May 6 to thwart the “mafias” plans against the top judge, adding that such forces were causing a schism among the Supreme Court’s justices.

He lashed out at the governing alliance, saying it was avoiding elections and violating the Pakistan Constitution and the CJP. “They are afraid of elections because they have caused unemployment and inflation in the country,” he said.

“Come out of your houses for the sake of your children’s future, country, and to tell Chief Justice that the nation is standing by you,” he exhorted the crowd.

The obstinate politician, who was deposed as Prime Minister in April by a no-confidence vote, said the PTI will stage demonstrations on Saturday in Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar to “save the constitution, the country, and the Supreme Court.”

In response to his appearance before the IHC, the PTI president said that he was flying to Islamabad despite a swelling in his foot because “I respect the courts and I am unlike those who propagate against the judiciary after unfavourable decisions.”

He recounted two attempts on his life, the first in Wazirabad and the second on March 18 outside the court complex in Islamabad.
