ISLAMABAD – Maryam Nawaz, the top organiser of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), arrived in Islamabad on Saturday after the PML-N agreed to attend rallies planned by PDM chairman Maulana Fazlur Rehman outside the Supreme Court.

Ms Nawaz will lead the PML-N protest.

The decision was made during a meeting at the PML-N headquarters in Model Town, presided over by PML-N chief organiser Maryam Nawaz and attended by the party’s MPAs and other leaders.

Earlier, as the Islamabad High Court ruled that PTI chief Imran Khan could not be arrested in any case until Monday (May 15), a day after the Supreme Court ruled that Mr Khan’s arrest in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case was “illegal,” Mr Rehman announced a protest and sit-in outside the top court.

The declaration was made by the PDM chairman during an emergency meeting attended by several political figures, including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and PML-N chief organiser Maryam Nawaz.

In a press conference after the meeting, Mr Rehman blasted the Supreme Court for granting bail to Mr Khan in all instances since May 9, and for allegedly giving him special treatment. He accused the court of enabling crime rather than combating it and protecting the criminal (Imran Khan).

The JUI-F president further accused the court of exceeding its constitutional and legal powers by instructing officials not to arrest Mr Khan even in unknown instances. He expressed disappointment that such concessions were not made to Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, or Faryal Talpur.
