On Sunday, Punjab Governor Muhammad Balighur Rahman issued the Punjab Agricultural Marketing Regulatory Ordinance Authority (Amendment) Ordinance 2023 and the Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Ordinance 2023.
As a result of Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPc), the governor issued the first ordinance. It was not practicable to send every urgent situation to the Cabinet right away.
The passage of the Amendment Ordinance has made it easier to implement Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code in emergency situations by reducing legal complexities. In urgent instances, the Deputy Commissioner or any other person particularly empowered by the Punjab government will be authorised to issue orders under Section 144 under the Amendment Ordinance.
