State media stated that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro landed in Saudi Arabia on Monday as the country’s diplomatic outreach extends beyond conventional Western allies.
According to the Saudi state news agency SPA, Maduro was welcomed at the airport of the Saudi city of Jeddah on the Red Sea by Prince Badr bin Sultan, the deputy governor of the district of Mecca.
Maduro of Venezuela is the most recent American adversary to visit Saudi Arabia as the kingdom forges new partnerships without the approval of the United States, a longtime ally. Over the past several months, Riyadh has improved relations with Iran and Syria while stepping up its collaboration with China and Russia.
