ISLAMABAD: The Senate overwhelmingly approved an amendment to the Election Act 2017 on Friday.

Shahadat Awan, Minister of State for Law, has proposed a measure that will modify the Elections Act of 2017.

In cases where the constitution does not specify the length of the punishment, the proposed amendment calls for a 5-year disqualification. Where the tenure and the method of disqualification are unclear, the act’s provisions will apply.
