Shehryar Afridi, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was on Monday incarcerated in Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail in connection with the May 9 riots by a district and sessions court.

On May 16, Afridi was arrested at his home in Islamabad in accordance with Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance 1960.

Police detained Mr. Afridi on May 30 just after he was let out of the Adiala prison in Rawalpindi. According to the jail administration, he was freed once his “house arrest” time under the MPO was complete.
