Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, Minister for Law, has refuted rumours and confirmed that the general elections will be held on time.
Speaking to Canadian High Commissioner Ms Leslie Scanlon here, he stated that the government’s top objective was to improve democracy.
It should be mentioned that rumours are circulating in the country that the terms of the National, Sindh, and Balochistan assemblies will be extended beyond 12 August.
Tarar told the Canadian high commissioner that the Army Act and the legislation enacted as a result of it guaranteed the rights of everyone charged. He voiced alarm about rising Islamophobia around the world, citing the Sweden incident in which a copy of the Holy Quran was desecrated.
