The PTI chairman and his wife Bushra Bibi were granted bail on Monday by a court in the nation’s capital in a case that contested their nikkah as “illegal and un-Islamic.”

They were each granted bail in exchange for Rs 30,000 in surety bonds by Civil Judge Qudratullah. He did, however, set a date for hearing arguments on their appeal for acquittal in the case for July 26.

The PTI leader appeared in court with his attorney Sher Afzal Marwat, who also provided legal counsel for Bushra Bibi to represent her in the matter.

The PTI leader was due to appear before the Islamabad High Court and a police station, therefore the lawyer also submitted a plea asking for the wife’s exemption from appearance.
