The United Nations General Assembly unanimously approved a Moroccan resolution, co-sponsored by Pakistan, on combatting hate speech and strongly condemning attacks on places of worship, religious symbols, and holy books on Tuesday.

The resolution, titled ‘Promoting interreligious and intercultural discourse and tolerance in opposing hate speech,’ was approved by the 193-member Assembly in the midst of increasing incidents of destruction of the holy Quran.

According to diplomats, Pakistan spearheaded the efforts, together with Malaysia and Egypt, to resolve the language intended at protecting the sanctity of religious sites, symbols, and holy books.
