The Army Act Amendment Bill, which permitted imprisonment for disclosing any material linked to national security and interest for unauthorised use and the person had gathered in an official capacity, was approved by the Senate on Thursday.

The law stipulates a five-year prison sentence for the offence and states that anyone who divulges material harmful to Pakistan or the military would be dealt with in accordance with the Army Act. If the act is carried out with the chief of army staff’s or another authorised officer or official’s consent, it won’t be a crime.
