On Friday, the Supreme Court declared the Supreme Court (Review of Judgements and Orders) Act, 2023, to be illegal and void.

On June 19, a three-member panel consisting of Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Ijazul Ahsan, and Justice Munib Akhtar had reserved its judgment.

The constitutional challenges to the new statute establishing the ability to appeal decisions of the supreme court were allowed by the Supreme Court. The chief justice declared that the parliament lacked the authority to pass such a law. The CJP continued by saying that the act was unconstitutional.
