KARACHI (Channel NewsPakistan) While Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah acknowledged six fatalities and stated that over 58 people were still missing, firefighters resumed their efforts late on Sunday night to put out a fire that had been blazing inside the Gul Plaza shopping mall since the previous night.
Murad Ali Shah told the reporters while visiting the devastated Gul Plaza that some individuals are politicizing the terrible event.
He continued by saying that although the prime minister has not yet been in touch with him, the provincial administration will fairly compensate traders for their losses.
The chief minister said that he was not in the city when it happened and that he learned about the fire late at night.
“I kept in touch with the Chief Secretary and the Mayor of Karachi, and Saeed Ghani also visited the site,” he stated.
The chief minister expressed concern that some people were exploiting the situation to get political points and described it as really terrible.
Murad Ali Shah recalled such occurrences, stating that President Asif Ali Zardari personally organized federal help following the Bolton Market catastrophe in Karachi, and the impacted individuals received cash compensation.
He claimed that comparable support was given following a fire at the Timber Market and will be given once more in this instance.
He said that the Gul Plaza fire had caused losses for small businesses and promised that open investigations would be carried out and that their losses would be reimbursed.
