MANILA (Channel News Pakistan)– The Philippines has verified that Sajid Akram and Naveed Akram, the two assailants engaged in the Bondi Beach incident, came to the nation in November using Indian passports.

According to a representative for the Philippines Immigration Department, the two men, a 50-year-old father and his 24-year-old son, arrived in the Philippines from Sydney on November 1. They left on November 28.

The Australian authorities are presently examining the motives for the assailants’ journey to the Philippines, and they have already admitted that they visited the nation. According to Australian police sources, Sajid and Naveed Akram were given military-style training while in the Philippines.

According to Indian media reports, Australian intelligence services have contacted the Indian government to learn more about the assailants and their backgrounds.

The Philippines Ministry of Defense has stated that local police are looking into the assailants’ visit before the shooting incident at Bondi Beach.

The Philippines has long struggled with militancy in its southern regions, particularly since 2017, when ISIS-aligned terrorists stormed Marawi City, resulting in a five-month fight.

Notably, India and Israel utilized the Bondi Beach incident to disseminate disinformation, alleging the perpetrators were Pakistani. However, this narrative crumbled when the Australian Home Minister announced that Naveed Akram was an Australian citizen. Additionally, Naveed Akram’s acquaintance told Australian media that his father was Indian and his mother was Italian.

Previously, Indian, Israeli, and Afghan media misidentified another guy, Sheikh Naveed, as one of the assailants. However, Sheikh Naveed issued a video statement denying any involvement in the incident and affirming that he was not the perpetrator.

Now that the Philippine government has confirmed the duo’s use of Indian passports, India and Israel’s assertions have been discredited.
