ISLAMABAD – A municipal court in Islamabad has ordered the shutdown of 27 popular YouTube channels in response to a plea from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), claiming the dissemination of anti-state information.

Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah presided over the hearing on the FIA’s request and delivered a two-page written ruling at the end of the proceedings.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Matiullah Jan MJtv, Asad Toor Uncensored, Habib Akram, Orya Maqbool Jan, Moeed Pirzada, and 21 more YouTube channels have all been disabled.

According to the court decision, the FIA launched an investigation on June 2 into channels accused of propagating anti-state information. The evidence supplied by the agency convinced the judge that legal action was appropriate.

The court asked YouTube’s in-charge officer to prohibit access to the 27 specified channels in accordance with the judgment.
