Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the head of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), said on Tuesday that he supports former Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif returning to Pakistan to continue his political career.

The JUI-F leader told the BBC that the decision to go to the elections was made following improvements in some institutions, and that it is impossible to predict how long electoral reforms will take. “The government has more than a year,” he continued, “and it cannot go beyond that.”

He stated that the country’s most pressing issue is to repair the country’s shattered economy, adding that Imran Khan has destroyed all institutions in the last three and a half years, and the only question now is if we can bring the country back on track and how long it would take. He claims Imran Khan has left a devastated economy.
