In the Toshakhana-II case, a special court sentenced Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder and former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 17 years in prison each. The case concerns claims that the couple illegally kept a Bulgari jewelry set that the Saudi Crown Prince had given them while on an official visit to Saudi Arabia.
Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were there when Special Judge Central Arjumand Shah pronounced the decision on Saturday at Adiala Jail. The prosecution effectively proved its case, and both accused were found guilty of the crime, according to the court’s written ruling.
In the Toshakhana-II case, the accountability court later issued a comprehensive ruling detailing the evidence and court processes that resulted in the conviction of Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and his wife Bushra Bibi.
Special Judge Central Shah Rukh Arjumand gave the comprehensive 59-page ruling. The ruling states that the case’s reference was submitted to an accountability court on September 7, 2024, and on September 9, 2024, it was moved to the Special Judge Central court.
According to the ruling, Imran Khan was fined Rs. 164.25 million and given a 10-year severe jail term under Section 409 of the Pakistan Penal Code. He will be imprisoned for an extra six months if the fine is not paid. In accordance with Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, he was also given a seven-year term.
In a similar vein, Bushra Bibi was fined Rs. 164.25 million and sentenced to 10 years in prison under Section 409 PPC and an extra seven years under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The Federal inquiry Agency (FIA) filed its report on September 23, 2024, according to the ruling, and the inquiry against the accused started based on a source report. It stated that complete cooperation in the inquiry was offered by Italian authorities, including the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to the court, a thorough, validated report that was translated into English and used as evidence was acquired from a Bulgarian business. Brigadier (retd) Muhammad Ahmed, a former military secretary, stated that on May 7 to May 10, 2021, he traveled to Saudi Arabia with Bushra Bibi and former prime minister Imran Khan.
