New York_ Pakistani Ambassador to the United Nations Munir Akram said during a news conference that Pakistan regrets not being invited to the UN Security Council meeting on the situation in Afghanistan since it has a direct stake in its neighbor’s security.

The UN Security Council had a special session earlier on Friday to examine the rise in violence in Afghanistan following the withdrawal of US and other foreign soldiers.
On Friday, Akram stated, “I must express my sorrow that Pakistan’s request for participation in today’s UN Security Council meeting was not approved.” “This is particularly regrettable given Pakistan’s proximity to Afghanistan.

According to Akram, Pakistan has suffered the most from the Afghan conflict and is concerned about the recent uptick in violence there.

“We are convinced that any military takeover or forceful imposition of a government in Afghanistan would exacerbate and prolong the conflict,” he added.

Akram urged participants in the next Doha peace negotiations, which are set to begin on August 11, to contribute to Afghanistan’s peace and stability.

“Pakistan thinks that peace is still possible for the Afghan people, and they must not miss out on this chance,” he added.
