A news article that was full of errors and erroneous information that incorrectly claimed that 13 million individuals won’t be allowed to vote in the upcoming general elections was vehemently disputed by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

A spokeswoman for ECP claimed in a statement that the news article published in the local newspaper on Friday is rife with errors and disinformation.

According to the spokesman, voter registration is based on a person’s permanent or current residence as it appears on their computerized National Identity Card (CNIC), and it is unrelated to population figures.

In contrast to voter registration, which is based on the address listed on the CNIC and has no relation to population data, a census needs a person’s physical presence, the man claimed.
