RAWALPINDI (Web Desk) On Wednesday, a day after the cipher case penalty was issued, the PTI founding chairman and his wife Bushra Bibi were declared guilty and barred from holding any public office in the Toshakhana reference.
According to a brief sentence issued by Muhammad Bashir, an accountability court judge who presided over the sessions at the Adiala Prison, the pair would face 14 years of harsh imprisonment as well as a 10-year ban from running for public office in any capacity.
The sentences also include a heavy punishment of Rs787 million each in a case involving the illicit acquisition and selling of valuable gifts obtained from foreign nations and housed in the state-run treasury known as Toshakhana.
During Wednesday’s hearing, the PTI ex-chairman was called before the court, who questioned him about his statement under Section 342, since he recorded his presence but his wife did not attend.
In his response, the accused, who has already been convicted in the cipher case, stated that it was in his cell since he had been provided just to document his attendance.
“Immediately submit your response. “Don’t waste the court time,” the accountability court judge instructed after hearing the PTI founder’s statement.
However, the previous leader of his party questioned the motivation for the rush, claiming that the sentencing in the cipher case was also hastily revealed.
As he left the courtroom for his prison cell, he stated that his defense attorneys had not yet come and that the document would be sentenced after consultation with them.
With the PTI former chairman still absent, the court questioned the deputy jail superintendent about the delay, to which the prison official replied that the accused would not appear until his attorneys arrived.
After some time, the court decided to issue the verdict.
