ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) intends to hold the presidential election on March 9, only one day before the start of Ramadan, Channel News reported Sunday.
A top ECP official acknowledged to the magazine that “there is a concrete proposal for the election of president on March 9.” Once authorized, the calendar for the election process, which includes the parliament and provincial legislatures, will be issued.
The 14th head of state will make his way to the White House in the next presidential election next month. Dr. Arif Alvi, the current president, ended his five-year term on September 8 of last year but remains in office in the absence of the legislatures, with the exception of Pakistan’s Senate.
