ISLAMABAD: The ‘controversial’ Election Act Amendment Bill 2024 was signed into law by President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday.

The measure has been sent to the Senate Secretariat, and the notice in the gazette will be published on Thursday.

On August 6, the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protested, but the Senate still passed the Election Act Amendment Bill by a majority vote.

Senator Talal Chaudhry of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) introduced the Election Act Amendment Bill while Yousuf Raza Gilani presided over the meeting. The opposition members began to demonstrate while still seated.
