ISLAMABAD – A Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) committee delivered its list of demands to the government on Thursday, as the second round of political dialogue, which began last month to address the country’s political uncertainties, came to an end.

Both parties had the first round of official discussions on December 23, with Imran Khan’s party requested to provide its proposals in writing at the next meeting on January 2.

According to a joint declaration issued during the meeting, the PTI demanded the release of all inmates, including Imran Khan, as well as the creation of a judicial commission to investigate the May 9 and November 26 incidents. The PTI also asked more time for further deliberations, and more negotiations will take place next week.

According to sources, the PTI group arrived at Parliament House for discussions, which comprised Omar Ayub, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Asad Qaiser, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, and Salman Akram Raja. KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur also participated in the discussions.

The negotiation committee’s meeting was headed by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq. Other speakers were Ishaq Dar, Aleem Khan, Farooq Sattar, Irfan Siddiqui, Rana Sanaullah, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Naveed Qamar, Khalid Magsi, and Ijazul Haq.

Speaking on the occasion, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said that the third meeting will be place next week.

Ayaz Sadiq stated that the opposition presented some of its demands to the committee, and that another meeting is needed to complete those proposals.

Senator Irfan Siddiqui, a prominent leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), claimed that after hearing the requests, he will need at least a week to make an opinion and reply. He said that once the opposition’s requests are in writing, they will analyze them and determine what is being sought.

He also stated that they must weigh the Constitution, legislation, and traditions when determining what is and is not possible.

Irfan Siddiqui stated that Omar Ayub gave his viewpoint in detail, and the committee sought further consultation with the PTI founder. The formal charter of demands will be given at the next meeting, which is set for next week, he said.
