The head of the joint investigative team (JIT) looking into the violent episodes of May 9 resigned on Friday.

Imran Kishwar, Punjab Police Deputy Inspector General (DIG), led the JIT and has resigned from his position.

According to Channel News Pakistan, Imran Kishwar has resigned from Pakistan’s Police Service. In his resignation letter, he stated that he vigorously honored his pledge and had paid the price for it several times. He stated that he has reached the point where he is unable to continue serving in this role. He stated that he has served with respect, but he can no longer serve in quiet.

However, police authorities stated that DIG Admin Imran Kishwar’s resignation has yet to be accepted by the Inspector General (IG) Punjab’s office.

According to reports, the Punjab IGP will decide whether to accept, advance, or suspend the resignation once the formal document is received. The situation remains murky because no official resignation has been handled inside the police apparatus.

Additional developments are likely as officials assess the situation.

Imran Kishwar, a 33rd Common officer, is presently the DIG Admin in Lahore. According to reports, the conference was attended by personnel ranging in rank from SSP to DIG.Imran Kishwar was at number 21 on the seniority list, however he was not promoted. DIG Imran Kishwar resigned, reportedly frustrated by the refusal of his promotion.

In September 2023, the JIT implicated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan and the party’s national, provincial, and local leadership as the masterminds of the May 9 occurrences, claiming that the Jinnah House was assaulted with their consent. The JIT created the finding report, which was then submitted to an anti-terrorism court. It found Imran and the PTI’s top leadership responsible for the May 9 riots by encouraging people with a false attitude.
