ISLAMABAD (Channel News Pakistan) Opposition parties including the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM), and Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) have indicated that they will boycott today’s (Tuesday) Parliamentary National Security Committee meeting.
Mahmood Khan Achakzai (PkMAP), Sahibzada Hamid Raza (SIC), Allama Nasir Abbas (MWM), and Sardar Akhtar Mengal (BNP-M) would not attend the Parliamentary National Security Committee meeting.
On the other side, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) political committee has demanded a meeting with party founder Imran Khan in order to participate in the Parliamentary National Security Committee session.
In a statement, the PTI political committee claimed that the party’s leadership should be permitted to meet with the imprisoned former Prime Minister. The PTI political committee has also authorized Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to attend the National Security Committee meeting.
Previously, opposition leader in the National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan wrote a letter to NA speaker Ayaz Sadiq, requesting that he play a role in organizing a meeting between the party leadership and Imran Khan.
Earlier, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq called the in-camera meeting on the suggestion of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The lawmakers will receive a full briefing on the country’s security situation. The military commander will also inform the committee about the current security situation.
The meeting is attended by parliamentary leaders from all parties, as well as cabinet ministers.
The meeting will be held under tight security. Law enforcement agencies have been put on high alert to guarantee complete security. Strict security measures are in place within and around Parliament House.
