The Pakistani government has reinstated almost two dozen persons’ identification cards and passports, which had earlier been canceled in connection with an alleged attack on former Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa.
According to sources, the government has suspended revoking the identification documents of persons linked with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.
Protesters encircled Qazi Faez Isa’s vehicle and chanted slogans during his visit to London’s Middle Temple in October of last year. In response, Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior took serious notice of the occurrence and directed authorities to take action against those responsible.
The Pakistani government has also written to the United Kingdom, requesting the extradition of these people. The control list now includes Maleeka Bokhari, Abdullah M. Khalon, and Rahman Anwar.
Following the event, Minister of Interior Mohsin Naqvi declared the start of processes to revoke these persons’ citizenships. However, the judgment has now been overturned.
At the moment of Qazi Faez Isa’s departure from the Middle Temple, some 10 demonstrators attempted to obstruct his car and unlock the doors while yelling slogans against his legal verdicts.
