Tehreek-i-Tahafuz-i-Ayin-i-Pakistan, the major opposition alliance, began the sit-in on Thursday after informing the Supreme Court that Imran Khan had lost 85% of his vision in his right eye.
ISLAMABAD (Channel News Pakistan) – On Sunday, the opposition lawmakers began their third day of a sit-in at Parliament House amid worries about the health of Imran Khan, the former prime minister and founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
The Supreme Court (SC) was notified on Thursday that Imran Khan had lost 85% of his vision in his right eye, which prompted the main opposition coalition Tehreek-i-Tahafuz-i-Ayin-i-Pakistan (TTAP) to begin its sit-in. The alliance agreed to keep the sit-in going until the former premier was moved to a hospital of his choosing.
The PTI founder was remained detained in the Adiala Jail on Sunday morning, despite Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry’s confirmation on Saturday that the government had chosen to move him to a hospital and establish a medical board.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan uploaded photos of himself, TTAP Chairman Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Senate Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, MNA Asad Qaiser, and Senator Faisal Javed, among others, seated in Parliament House.
Meanwhile, the TTAP leadership stated that rather than being addressed cleanly, the matter has become more problematic.
“We were told last night that Imran Khan will be relocated to Shifa International Hospital. However, we were requested to replace the physicians on the medical board since incorporating doctors of our choosing would imply that the government had backed down.
“So we showed flexibility and proposed a few additional names, with the understanding that their identities would not be disclosed to the media,” it said.
“We are already receiving information that we must end the sit-in before Imran Khan is taken to the hospital and the medical board is publicly declared. “How can we end the sit-in unless our demands are met?” they inquired.
They added Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, who is staging a sit-in at KP House in the federal capital, had also contacted government leaders, warning that the situation might spiral out of hand if not addressed immediately.
The officials informed them that the interior minister was in Sri Lanka, and that the speakers of the National Assembly and Senate were also abroad of the country, making it impossible for authorities to make a decision.
Meanwhile, TTAP Spokesperson Akhunzada Hussain Yousafzai claimed that the sit-in will continue till the demands are met.
