LAHORE – Senior Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Hammad Azhar said on Monday that his party’s election campaign would begin on March 8.

Mr Azhar told a news conference that PTI leader Imran Khan would launch his election campaign on Wednesday at 1 p.m. Mr Azhar said that as part of the campaign, the party would hold the country’s historic rally under Mr Khan’s supervision.

He said that the demonstration would begin from Mr Khan’s Zaman Park mansion and go to Ferozepur Road before concluding at Data Darbar. Mr Azhar noted that a bulletproof automobile had been prepared for Mr Khan in this respect.

Mr Azhar said that he was educating his political opponents “Yesterday, JUI-F president Maulana Fazlur Rehman began causing a stir on the issue of having elections. Today, Rana Sanaullah was asking for the elections not to be held.”

He went on to suggest that if Mr Khan joins forces with the political establishment, he would face no danger. Nobody could erase Mr Khan, he said, adding that limiting Mr Khan’s ability to talk in the media was illegal.

When asked about the judiciary, Mr Azhar said that attempts were being made to split the judiciary.

Mr Azhar alleged that attempts were being made to undermine democracy, and that his party was being targeted. He bemoaned the fact that journalists were exposed to fabricated charges.
