PESHAWAR:In a bomb that tore through a jam-packed JUI-F workers’ convention in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district on Sunday, at least 35 people—including a local leader of the JUI-F—were murdered and up to 150 more were injured, according to police and rescuers.

Express News said that the explosion happened inside a hall at a market close to the Dubai Mor neighborhood of Bajaur’s Tehril Khar, where the JUI-F conference was taking place.

The explosion also claimed the life of Maulana Ziaullah, the emir of the JUI-F party in Tehsil Khar.

The district emergency officer for the Bajaur region, Saad Khan, verified the casualties, including Maulana Ziaullah’s passing. Authorities and rescuers expressed concern that the number of fatalities will increase.
