Section 144 was enforced in Rawalpindi in response to the prospect of protests following the arrest of the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The Rawalpindi deputy commissioner issued a notification of Section 144 execution, which states that all types of meetings, processions, and sit-ins are prohibited.

The use of loudspeakers and carrying weapons will be prohibited in Rawalpindi, as will wall-chalking and double-riding.
