ISLAMABAD – President Dr. Arif Alvi has signed the summary for the dissolution of the National Assembly in accordance with Article 58(1) of the Pakistan Constitution of 1973.
According to a news statement issued by the President Secretariat news Wing on Wednesday, Dr. Alvi signed the summary for the dissolution of the NA on the Prime Minister’s suggestion.
Following the dissolution of the National Assembly, Article 224-A of the Constitution will be invoked to begin the process of appointing a caretaker prime minister.
The next step would be negotiations between Prime Minister Shehbaz and the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Raja Riaz, to finalize the name of the temporary prime minister.
If they cannot agree on a nominee within three days, the subject will be sent to the parliamentary committee for the nomination of a temporary PM.
According to the legislation, the premier and the opposition leader will both submit their names to the parliamentary committee for consideration for the coveted job.
The parliamentary committee must finalize the choice of the caretaker prime minister within three days, or the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will select the caretaker prime minister within two days.
