ISLAMABAD – (A News) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and opposition leader Raja Riaz will meet today to choose a temporary prime minister. Their meeting on Wednesday has been rescheduled.

The meeting is expected to take place between 2 and 3 p.m. at Prime Minister House, according to sources.

The opposition has been notified of this.

In actuality, the premier and the opposition leader would each name three candidates for the job, from which one consensus candidate would be chosen.

It should be noted that the ruling coalition’s candidates have been nominated. The MQM has proposed Kamran Tessori as temporary prime minister, while the National Party has proposed Shakeel Baloch.

Furthermore, former foreign secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani, ex-finance minister Hafeez Sheikh, and Justice (Retd) Tasaddaq Jilani have all been considered for the position of caretaker prime minister. The names of Justice (Retd) Maqbool Baqir, Fawad Hasan Fawad, Zulfiqar Magsi, and Dr. Ishrat Abad are still being considered.

According to insiders, Jalil is the most qualified contender for the position. Asif Zardari, co-chairman of the People’s Party (PPP), proposed his name to Nawaz Sharif, who did not oppose.

It should be mentioned that if the premier and opposition leader are unable to agree on a nominee for the caretaker prime minister, the topic will be brought to a parliamentary committee. If the committee fails to reach a resolution, the case will be sent to the Election Commission with in two days
