ISLAMABAD ( Channel NewsPakistan) : Several FIA officers have been sacked, demoted, or censured for various offenses, including carelessness that led to the 2023 Greece boat catastrophe, which resulted in the deaths of nearly 200 Pakistani migrants.

According to official sources, the Interior and Narcotics Control Secretary oversaw the accountability process and issued directives imposing various sanctions.

The officials were terminated on a variety of accusations, including criminal negligence, corruption, and unprofessional conduct. The secretary also denied repeated appeals. According to sources, the secretary undertook a case-by-case examination of departmental accountability actions and appeals.
In the Greek boat accident case, a deputy director and two assistant directors stationed at Karachi Airport were fired when incompetence was shown. An assistant director posted at Faisalabad Airport was also dismissed on similar negligence charges in the same case.

At Multan Airport, a deputy director was demoted and reduced in rank and salary for three years due to alleged involvement with people traffickers.
Similarly, two senior detectives were let go for inadequate investigation, and an assistant database administrator was fired for incompetence and carelessness.

Four assistant directors and one inspector were disciplined for absence, carelessness, and inadequate investigation, with one to three years of basic salary reductions. At Islamabad Airport, an assistant director and an inspector were disciplined for mistreat a prisoner.

The secretary of Interior and Narcotics Control also denied the pleas of six sub-inspectors, one ASI, three head constables, and five constables, affirming their expulsion from service.
