Moscow (Webdesk) – Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Pakistan’s recently appointed Ambassador to the Russian Federation, formally handed his letters of credence to President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday in a solemn ceremony at the Kremlin Palace, signaling the official start of his diplomatic service in Moscow.
During the occasion, Ambassador Tirmizi delivered cordial greetings and expressions of goodwill from Pakistan’s President, Prime Minister, and people to the Russian leader. The conversation emphasized Islamabad’s desire to enhance ties with Moscow at a time when bilateral relations are gaining steam in a variety of strategic and economic areas.
President Putin recognized Pakistan as a close ally of Russia, saying that bilateral cooperation is growing steadily, notably in commerce, diplomacy, education, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, railroads, industry, healthcare, and information technology. He emphasized that cooperation between Russian and Pakistani institutions and enterprises is increasing, indicating deeper political and economic convergence between the two countries.
Ambassador Tirmizi commenced his responsibilities in Moscow on October 26, 2025. His diplomatic goals include developing cooperation in energy, trade, regional connectivity, culture, education, and people-to-people relations, as well as focusing on the welfare and assistance of the Pakistani population in Russia. These topics have been highlighted as critical for developing a more diverse and resilient bilateral cooperation.
Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, a senior career diplomat, entered Pakistan’s Foreign Service in 1995 and has held many critical positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Pakistan’s embassies overseas. His foreign missions have included Turkmenistan, the United States, the United Nations, and the United Arab Emirates, allowing him to gain vast expertise in global diplomacy and regional involvement.
Prior to his position in Moscow, he was Pakistan’s Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic from 2018 to 2019, followed by a term as Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates from 2022 to 2025. His work in the Gulf and Central Asia was centered on economic diplomacy, expatriate welfare, and increased political outreach.
In acknowledgment of his diplomatic services, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan bestowed the First Class Order of Zayed II, one of the country’s highest civilian honors. He has also received the Shanghai collaboration Organization Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (SCO RATS) Award, which recognizes his contributions to regional security and collaboration.
The Kremlin event, which formally recognized Ambassador Tirmizi as Pakistan’s envoy to Russia, comes as Islamabad and Moscow deepen their interaction through economic, technological, and institutional avenues, solidifying a cooperation that has grown in recent years.
