ISLAMABAD (Channel News Pakistan) – Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has confirmed that the process of notifying the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) has commenced.

In his statement on X, Khawaja Asif stated that suspicion about the CDF notice is spreading.

He noted that the CDF notification will be provided at the proper moment, leaving no space for additional conjecture.

Khawaja Asif also stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will return to the nation shortly.

His declaration came amid widespread suspicion. By underlining that the notification would be provided at the proper moment and discouraging additional speculation, the minister hopes to maintain stability and prevent disinformation.

It should be mentioned that the office of Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) was established with the 27th Constitutional Amendment. Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir was appointed to this position with legislative approval, although no formal announcement has yet been released.

Officials and experts expected the new notice to coincide with the dissolution of the CJCSC position, with November 29 considered as a critical date marking the conclusion of Field Marshal Asim Munir’s initial three-year mandate as Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

However, on November 29, no formal announcement was issued to select the country’s first Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).

Some legal experts warned that, in the lack of a new notice, Field Marshal Munir’s term may be viewed as officially expired.
