ISLAMABAD (Channel News Pakistan)-Former Director General of Inter Services Intelligence, Lt Gen (r) Faiz Hameed, has been sentenced to 14 years hard jail for breaching the Secret Act.

The Pakistan Army’s media wing, ISPR, has reported that procedures under the Pakistan Army Act were begun against him through a Field General Court Martial, which lasted 15 months.

According to the ISPR, the accused faces four accusations. These allegations include participating in political activities, violating the Official Secrets Act, abusing power and government resources, and inflicting illegal injury to concerned persons.

“After extensive and exhausting legal processes, the accused was found guilty of all accusations and sentenced to 14 years harsh imprisonment by the Court, which was promulgated on December 11, 2025.

According to the ISPR, following a protracted judicial process, the accused was found guilty of all accusations. The court’s sentence will take effect on December 11, 2025.

The ISPR stated that the Field General Court Martial met all legal standards and that the accused was granted all legal rights, including the ability to choose a team of attorneys for his defense.

“Involvement of convict in fomenting vested political agitation and instability in cahoots with political elements and in certain other matters is separately being dealt with,” according to the ISPR statement.

It further stated that the accused’s involvement with political elements, political unrest, and matters relating to instability are being investigated independently.

It should be noted that former DG ISI Faiz Hameed was arrested on August 12, 2024, after the Supreme Court’s order to convene a Court of Inquiry in Top City.

It is worth mentioning that Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed formerly served as DG ISI and Corps Commander of Peshawar.

When did Faiz Hameed initially come to prominence?

Former ISI head Faiz Hameed’s name initially came up during the 2017 Faizabad sit-in, when it was revealed that he had worked as a facilitator in negotiating an agreement between the government and the then-banned Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).

On November 27, 2017, the government’s formal agreement with the outlawed TLP ended with the phrase “Through the facilitation of Major General Faiz Hameed.”

Following the 2018 general elections, the PTI administration selected Faiz Hameed as Director General of the ISI in 2019, where he served for more than two years.
