SLAMABAD: The Karakoram Highway has been reopened to all types of traffic after three days of work, according to a statement from the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) laboured diligently day and night to open the roadway, according to the military’s media wing.
FWO crews worked day and night to open the route for traffic, despite the terrible weather and challenging conditions, according to the ISPR.
According to the ISPR, the highway in Gilgit Baltistan was blocked on Tuesday owing to rainfall, and it was stopped at 20 locations between Tatta Pani and Raikot.
Due to landslides in Gilgit-Baltistan, the Karakoram Highway was closed, stranding a significant number of visitors and residents.
Heavy equipment was placed on both sides of the Karakoram to clear the roadway, but landslides hampered restoration efforts.
Work on reopening the blocked sections of the Karakoram Highway began early Thursday morning, according to the GB Home Department.
According to them, the Disaster Management Authority and the FWO worked around the clock to repair the Gilgit-Astore Road, and all modes of transportation were back on the road by Thursday afternoon.
The road would be reopened shortly if there is no further rain or landslides, according to the GB home department, with FWO, NHA, and district authorities monitoring repair work on the location.
Tourists were advised to stay in Chilas until the roads were reopened.
