ISLAMABAD: According to reports, Lt Gen Faiz Hameed, the director general of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), came in Kabul on Saturday to meet with Taliban leaders and address issues such as safe evacuation of foreign nationals, border control, and regional security.
According to reports, the intelligence director will spend a day in Kabul, meeting and working with Pakistani Ambassador Mansoor Ahmed Khan and his staff on issues of repatriation and passage through Pakistan, as well as the situation on the border.
Thousands of foreign people have been evacuated from the war-torn country with Pakistan’s assistance since the Taliban took power last month. The Pakistani embassy in Kabul has been assisting with the evacuation operations around the clock.
According to reports, the ISI head will meet with the Taliban to address ongoing demands for repatriation and passage via Pakistan from countries and international organisations.
He’ll also discuss the necessity to come up with a system through which Islamabad might enable these, in collaboration with Afghan officials on the ground.
Border control is another crucial topic that will be discussed during Lt Gen Faiz Hameed’s day-long visit, according to sources.
According to reports, officials will check into the situation to guarantee that the system by which Afghans cross the border on a daily basis and subsequently return functions smoothly and that only those who are permitted to do so do so.
They said that stories in the Western media implying a large refugee inflow or pressure on Pakistan’s borders from Afghanistan are “incorrect.”
To ensure that spoilers and terrorist organisations do not take advantage of the circumstance, DG ISI will conduct meetings on the entire security problem.
